Katie's Ensemble

Katie and six of her friends entered the Ohio Music Education Association's Solo and Ensemble competition this year and earned the highest marks awarded. Although they could have chosen to compete just against other Westerville schools, they chose to enter the much larger Central Ohio competition. They rehearsed themselves in their spare time (often during their school lunch period) and played the Beatles' "Eleanor Rigby." (A daring choice for a largely classical competition.) They're a great bunch of kids. I'm especially proud of them because 1.) they weren't discouraged by the fact last year they were disqualified after they competed because of a registration error made by their teacher and 2.) their other first violin fainted outside the jury room and couldn't perform, leaving Katie to compensate on the fly as the only first violin. She didn't miss a beat.
