Dear Katie,
I just wanted to take a minute to tell you how proud I am of you. In one week, I've been invited to two special events honoring your accomplishments. Straight As is no small feat, even when school comes easily for you; however, it's not the grades I'm most proud of.
I'm sitting here looking at your certificates and this is what I remember. I remember that science fair project. I remember that you came up with the idea yourself and executed the experiment on your own, asking for guidance only when you really needed it. I remember the screaming and crying and how you almost gave up on it. But you didn't.
I remember you talking about OwjL camp way back in 5th grade. You stayed focused on your goal, took care of the application process, and even took steps to plan for the expense, forgoing some Christmas and birthday presents in order to pay for it. You applied even though you won't know anyone and you'll be away for an entire week in a strange place. I wish I'd had your courage when I was your age.
I know just being an ordinary kid hasn't always come easily for you, but you're no ordinary kid. You drive me absolutely bonkers sometimes, but it sure was easy being your mom this week.
I love you to the moon and back.
Now go clean your room. It's a pit again.
xxoo Mama
