I don't know whether Zach is funnier than his sisters were at his age or I just have the time and energy to document his musings, but every day he says something to make me laugh. Yesterday seemed to be full of funny moments.
Yesterday I volunteered in Zach's class. I was sitting in the back of the room doing a numbers assessment with each child when I happened to tune in to the lesson his teacher was leading. She was working on number sequences. On the wall was a large chart covered with small plastic squares in which were the numbers 1-30. She would ask the kids to close their eyes and she would remove one number. Then she would ask which number was missing. The exhanges went like this:
Teacher: "What number is missing?"
Student: "Number 7."
Teacher: "How do you know that?"
Student: "Because it comes after 6."
Teacher: "What number is missing?"
Student: "Number 22."
Teacher: "How do you know that?"
Student: "Because it comes before 23."
Then came Zach's turn:
Teacher: "What number is missing?"
Zach: "Number 13 and I know this because I can count to infinity."
Later that night I was playing Mastermind with Zach just before bed. We were both tired and at one point I said, "Hmmm...this is a tricky one." And Zach replied, "Well, it **is** called Mastermind."
